Akai GX-635D Reel-to-Reel Tape Deck
$1,995.00 · Item #717
This audio component is likely an Akai GX-635D stereophonic reel-to-reel tape deck. It features a brushed silver-tone aluminum front panel framed by wood-grained side panels and a black slotted top ventilation cover. The upper section houses two large reel turntables with integrated twist-lock spindle retainers, centered around a rotary pitch control knob and a four-digit mechanical real-time tape counter. Below the reels, the horizontal head bridge cover is marked for a three-motor direct capstan drive, feather-touch logic control, auto-reverse recording and playback, and wear-resistant glass and crystal ferrite heads. The lower fascia includes dual analog VU meters, a rectangular transport keypad, and dual concentric potentiometers for recording and output levels. Produced in Japan around the late 1970s and early 1980s, this six-head deck was engineered for full bi-directional recording and playback without requiring reel inversion.
